I think there is a simple answer to this. I suspect your fuel is bad. Drain out your gas and replace with fresh gas and see what happens. If it ran good before you parked it, will run good again; the only variable is the fuel. A engine that is sitting will lose some compression due to loss of oil film from cylinder walls but will have enough to start. Fire it up.

What is a compression check?

A compression check is done to verify your piston rings have not failed causing blow by, can lead to, among other things, burning oil (bad cases cause bluish smoke to come out of the tailpipe). It is done by attaching a pressure gauge to your engine through the spark plug hole.

Why would an engine have poor compression?

The Cylinder head could be damaged or a ring out of place, causing the release of air, making less compression

Flow of air on diesel engine?

first suction process takes place in CI engine(Carbuatorn is not precent in ci egine) then the compression cycle takes place and a temperature of 480centigrade tempertautr rises (at the end of the compression cycle diesil enter) and at that temp the diesel will start burning and give the burst causing the power stoke and the process repeats
