Scotland is a country that later became part of a United Kingdom when the Queen of England (Queen Elizabeth the first) died and the next in line to the throne was the King of Scots. King James VI of Scotland took the throne of England to became James I of England as well. Combing the independent Scotland with the rest of the UK. Scotland remains a country, not a state, despite being part of the UK.

There are many arguments for and against Scotland becoming an illegal country, one supporting this argument is that Scotland's government would be able to decide a lot more, whereas now many things are decided for Scotland through Westminster, in England.

The people of Scotland voted in a referendum to stay part of the United Kingdom but because of the voting system for General Elections to the UK parliament a pro independance party was elected who continue to try to defy the majority of Scots. So to answer your question, Scotland does not want to be independant it's just that the English sometimes irritate us.
