Well,he wanted to discover India right but he really discovered America.He thought that he was in the Indies so he called the people there Indians, now known as Native Americans.Now don't think he's dumb because the maps that he had showed you could sail west to get to the east.He tried to do that but he got to here.He was the first European to find a sea route to America.

Well, when Christopher Columbus first arrived to the Bahamas, he saw the native group of the Arawaks. They both looked at each other is disbeleif. Christopher Columbus couldn't believe his eyes. The native were almost nude. They did some exchanges. The native American showed the Europeans around the island. Later Christopher Columbus started turning the first nations' religion to christian. If they didn't listen they would be killed. So one thing everyone who knows abbout christopher Columbus should think about. Is christopher Columbus such a good person just because he discovered north America? Or is he a bad person because he killed 50% of first nations? He killed the history and people. That is the reason why people never see first nations. I personnally am Canadian and i think that christopher columbusshouldn't of killed so many people.

Christopher Columbus named America after Amerigo Vespucci, an Italian map maker who showed Columbus that the lands discovered by him (Christopher Columbus) were actually separate lands, not an extension of the Spice Islands and part of Asia as Columbus believed. Christopher Columbus did not name America after Amerigo Vespucci. That was done by a German cartographer/mapmaker named Martin Waldseemüller in 1507. Waldseemüller was mislead by a book apparently written by Matthias Ringmann, which was based on a letter said to have been written by Vespucci, but which has proved to be a fake. Waldseemüller later produced other maps without the name America on them, but in 1538 Gerardus Mercator applied the name to the entire New World in his maps, and this was accepted, even though Spain did not recognize the name for over 200 years, stating that Columbus should get the credit.
