Why should human persons arrive at the objective norm or standard of morality?

AnswerIf we do away with all objective standards then we are left with the subjective and changeable standards of people. These can be good but they can also be frequently selfish, exploitive and violent. Many would assert that there is no such thing as either absolute truth nor any objective standard of morality. Those who have actually lived under communism, which has at its heart the philosophy of Atheism supported by evolution (this being acknowledged in an increasing number of books including Peter Hitchens' The Rage Against God ) know what it is like to experience a governing power and a society where the previous Christian moral standard was explicitly rejected. Personal freedom is one of the first things to go -what one must do and believe is already decided.

Since humans have a long history (including the 20th Century communist regimes) of getting it wrong, this is why it is only safe to adopt a standard that comes from outside ourselves, from our maker.
