Why should one become a teacher?

Teaching is arguably one of the most important jobs in any society. But you should consider this profession only if you desire it, you have or are willing to get the necessary training, and you have at least the minimum competency and skill in educational work. If any of these is seriously lacking, consider choosing another field. ---- You should have the dedication to want to make a difference in the lives of the children you will teach. You will be their main influence for the time you have them. Only become a teacher if you are prepared the wear the responsibility of knowing that everything you say and everything you do is being scrutinised, evaluated and judged as 'good', 'bad', 'right', 'wrong' and so on.

A lot of people are passionate about education and like children. Many professors at universities teach to supplement their income from research and outside work (or they're retiring from their profession, or can't get a job).

Also, the health benefits at most teacher's unions are fantastic.

• Because it's going to be exciting when I'm able to make people understand and to know something they didn't know before.
• I became a teacher to right what I believed were wrongs that I had seen decades before. I believed that I could help guide children to learning, and do it without needlessly frustrating them. I could bring humor into a classroom and do it in such a way as to support and enhance learning. I believe that intelligence is not just performance on a test, information previously consumed that is vomited up on command, but something larger, something alive, and perhaps largely immeasurable. I believe that people, if given the opportunity, will show what they know more readily if the classroom is a safe place for them to share, that teachers need not drag regurgitated information from their students, but that students become partners in education with their teachers and parents. I believe that education is an environment and an attitude or point of view, not a place. I believe that learning happens every minute of every day of life. I believe I never learned so much as when I was teaching.
