Because of the overpopulation of cats in the US many spay and neuter programs are available for feral cats.This is extremely helpful in population control, their are so many cats that not only are the majority homeless, but many have diseases, that can continue to spread through the feral, and stray cat population, and even to outdoor homed cats.the living condition's for feral cats can be appalling, and would only get worse if the population got larger.

∙ 12y agoSpaying female cats is important for many reasons. First there is a problem with animal over population and when animals don't have homes they either become strays or go to the pound, which are often euthanized because there are not anough people to adopt them and shelters get too full.
So it's best to prevent more kittens in the first place and adopt the ones that don't have homes first.
There are also health benefits for spaying a cat. The risk of cancers such as mammary cancer are vastly decreased when a cat is spayed. A spayed cat also does not have to deal with the stress of coming into heat regularly, which puts pressure on the cat's health.
