Also called the "lungs of the planet", rain forest serves as the main source of genetical diversity and new animal and plant species. For example chicken come out of the rain forest originally. Without biodiversity, a fast, contagious illness may kill all the individuals of a kind if they are all identical. Small differences in one animal or plant species cause that not all are susceptible the same and some are outright resistant. Plus, rain forest absorb extreme amounts of water... if you destroy rain forest, you get a soil where you can plant crops for some years, but after that it will be useless, almost dead.

Hungrily eating the rain forest is very bad in the long term, both because of limited usability of such deeds and damage to climate control of this planet.

The rainforest is basically the lungs of the planet, as, due to photosynthesis, it changes Carbon Dioxide and Water into Oxygen for us to breath.

Also, over half of the plant species and nearly a third of the worlds animal species live in the rainforest. Cutting down the rainforest would kill millions of species that live nowhere else, and kill the planet as we will run out of oxygen eventually without the Amazon.

The rain forest is possibly the most diverse environment in the world it contains 90% of the world animal and plant life and has weather that changes rapidly. But every minute acres of this forest are being cut down.

Loggers are mainly after the trees like mahogany, which sell for more money, but in this process they cut down and destroy masses of other plant life. They have tried to make logging more economic by using selective logging which is searching the forest for these good trees then cutting the specific trees down and dragging them out of the forest, but even this is damaging because to get the trees out they need to bulldoze a path in and out and often destroy more trees than they are selling. In this essay I am going to express my views on deforestation.

The Amazon rainforest is about the size of Europe and every day roughly 51.8 square kilometres are cut down. So that's 18,900 square km a year and that's a lot. One of the main reasons for deforestation is the actions of Brazil, in the 1970 - 80's Brazil borrowed a large sum of money from MEDCs to develop their country they now owe these MEDCs £50 billion a year and a further £15 million interest every day. So to pay this back they need to use their main resource, which is their forest and the easiest way to get money out of it, is logging. A single mahogany tree is worth £35,000 so they will need to get a lot to pay back the debt but for every mahogany tree that is cut down an average of 30 other trees are cut down. So for Brazil to earn £1 million they need to cut down about 888 trees and to pay back their daily interest they need to cut down 13,320 trees a day, but how many trees will they need to cut down to make the £50 billion they owe a year.

An alternative to logging that still uses the forest is tourism they could take people for hikes through the rainforest and camp in it, they could teach people about different animals and show them species that they may not have seen before. They could also show they plants and how to use them like bush craft so they could learn a new skill that could help them in life. But an idea that will drastically stop or at least lessen deforestation is that these MEDCs just drop the debt there is basically no way that Brazil will get enough money to pay them back and anyway The MEDCs don't really need the money. So dropping the debt won't make much difference.

The true answer is so we can say sorry to our Earth and re pay her in one tiny aspect for all that we have done. We have cut down trees and grazed cattle on the nutritous grass so it will never grow again just to feed ourselves. We have made animals go extinct for our fear of the unknown. We have invaded the animals privacy trying to find out more about the wonderful world we live on. We have allowed timber companys to clear areas so we can have a nice bit of furniture, meanwhile destroying others homes homes. We have delved into the tribes land which was once their hidden spot - now no more than homes to us, just an intrusion on their privacy and an investigation.

The fact is that as humans we cannot stand back and appreciate a beautiful work of natural art, we must uncover every rock until there is no more we can find out. Even if this means killing our world we continue just to say to your grandchildren when you are older "I made first contact with the tribes" never even considering if that was what they wanted. Perhaps we should step back once in a while and just say thankyou to our mother Earth instead of crushing her down. So, in summary, we should save the amazon rainforest to save ourselves.

They should be saved because they produce a TON of oxygen for our Earth, are homes to millions of wild animals (not to mention hundreds of endangered ones), and are the home to hundreds of undiscovered species of animals and plants; some of which could cure any of our health problems!

The Amazon Rainforest is a habitat for a variety of flora and fauna unique to the Amazon, these organisms are a important part of the ecosystem and deforestation is destroying their natural environment resulting in extinction. There are many reasons as to why the Amazon Rainforest should be protected; the fact that its pristine environment is a home to many amazing creatures is just one.

You should keep it because obviously it has trees, trees give us oxygen and also the Amazon rainforest covers up 40% of Brazil (which is where the Amazon Rainforest is)
