LEDs are built from binary semiconductors like: gallium arsenide phosphide (GaAsP) for red, aluminium gallium indium phosphide (AlGaInP) for green, silicon carbide (SiC) for blue, etc. instead of the silicon or germanium used in ordinary junction diodes. This has the following effects:

  1. when electrons and holes recombine at the P-N junction of an LED the bandgap is large enough to produce visible light photons, but in silicon and germanium the bandgap is only large enough to produce far infrared photons
  2. the binary semiconductors used to make LEDs are transparent to visible light so the photons produced escape the device, silicon and germanium are opaque and immediately absorb the far infrared photons they produce which only heats the device slightly

What is the abbreviation for led tv?

Light-Emitting Diode =LED LED is not a kind of display, when we say LED tv is actually means LCD display with LED back lights.

Are LED lights energy savers?

Yes, the Light Emitting Diodes also called LED are energy savers.

Light emiting LEDS?

No, that is an auto-recursive expression. The LE of LED already refers to light emitting so what you are asking about is light emitting light emitting diodes! In any case, we have no way of knowing what you want to know about LEDs.

What is infrared led?

An IR LED is used in applcations like remote controls...it's much the same as as a normal Light Emitting Diode...Just that the wavelength of the emitted light is not present in the visible spectrum...

What is the average power consumption of led bulbs?

Light Emitting Diodes (LED) consume approximately seven (7) watts (or power).

How many type of diode?

There are many types of diodes that are used for different functions in electronics. The most common types include the laser diodes and the light emitting diodes (LED).

What is the function of led connectors?

Light emitting diodes or LED is used to save on electricity. LED connectors are a semiconductor device designed to produce a certain wavelength and type of light.

What is a light emitting diodes?

A light-emitting Diode (LED) is a semiconductor device that converts electrical energy into light energy. When put into a circuit, the current only travels in one direction. The most commonly used LED emits red light.

What television is a better television LCD or LED?

Basically ,LED stands for Light Emitting Diode and LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. LCD TV use fluorescent lights while LED TV use those light emitting diodes. The fluorescent lights in an LCD TV are always behind the screen. On an LED TV, the light emitting diodes can be placed either behind the screen or around its edges. In my opinion, LED TV is more efficient than LCD TV
