Slavery not only existed in America but in many places in the world. In many places it serfdom had replaced it. Still it was accepted. It existed almost worldwide. It existed in Europe, Africa, The Arab World, and The Americas. The Spanish enslaved Indians and killed many of them and then replaced them with black people. Slave ships then started going up the coast of America continuing selling slaves after they had sold slaves to the Spanish Colonies. So America simply joined a movement with wide support throughout the world.
