Living in an age that is high-tech, at least to us it is, it's hard to imagine how vital the horse was to people in the pre-automobile days. The horse was a status symbol, transportation, a means of survival to name just a few. Sometimes your very life depended on your horse. Any charismatic leader needed to project power and control. When others walked, their leaders rode the best bred horses that they could afford.
