Lok sabha is called the lower house of the parliament of Indian because of the elected members of the loksabha. MP (member of Parliament) are the people who are elected through elections and are the choice of people .

If you see the hierarchy of the society people comes to be the lowest in position and hence the representatives of these people are known as Members of Loksabha / lower house.

Whereas the Rajya sabha is called as Upper house because people elected by MP of loksabha are of generally from high society, research scholars , academician, business tycoon, person with great intellectual minds, renowned social workers etc which constitute to posses high position in society.
