Thuringia and parts of Saxony were taken by the U.S. Shortly after the end of World War 2 the Americans pulled their troops back from these areas, as they had been allocated to the Soviet Union at Yalta. If they had refused to do so, the Western Allies wouldn't have been allowed to take up their sectors in Berlin.
