The Third Punic War makred the fall of Carthage; the Romans terrorized, looted, raped and enslaved the once great empire and its inhabitants. Cities were burned to the ground leaving ruins. The Romans even distributed salt throughout the lands so that nothing can be grown, this has a negative impact on the modern states of North Africa. The historical study of Carthage is promblematic for archaeologists because the culture and records of Carthage were destroyed.
