Best Answer

Cleopatra became famous or infamous because of the misconceptions about her. In her own time she was a minor queen of a crumbling dynasty. She gained notoriety as the seducer of Marc Antony in Octavian's Propaganda against Antony. William Shakespeare took up the story and exaggerated it into a passionate love affair for one of his plays and her fame spread from there.
