The people needed to grow against their ruler, and "Common Sense" explained the problems and how to rise against Britain. Everyone could understand, and they wanted to use that information ot rise agaist Britain and gain their independence.

For instance, common sense during the time frame when humans were created was being able to hunt. Now, common sense is knowing that carbon is the first element on the periodic table.
