Francis Marion (c. 1732 - February 27, 1795) , the 'Swamp Fox' , was an officer in the American Revolutionary War . He had learned his tactics from his time during the French and Indian war against the Cherokees who utilized these tactics which emphasized concealment , ambush and utilizing terrain to gain an advantage .
