It was Lee's second and last failed attempt to invade Pennsylvania. It was on the same day as the relief of Vicksburg, far away on the Mississippi, which ended the war in the West. Together they made a joyous July the Fourth anouncement and celebration.
The US Civil War (1861-1865).The US Civil War .The Gettysburg Address was given by US President Lincoln on November 19, 1863. Gettysburg probably wouldn't have happened. However, it might have been a different battle because they might have met up somewhere else. Another outcome might have been that the North would have lost the war. Gettysburg was one of the major turing points in the Civil War. The North might have lost. Then again, the North was winning back its footing and Gettysburg was not the only turning point in the War. So, I guess we'll never really know what could've happened if Gettysurg had not been. But I think it is much more comforting to know that what really happened in the end effects our lives today, and we can all live free.
I do not know how one could call it a turning point, as one would have to say what what it turned from and to. But it is one point in History that most things are compared to.
