The Jamestown colony was settled by colonists who wanted to come to the New World for the purpose of making money, and whose trips were made possible by investors. The colony was sponsored by the Virginia Company. The investors of the company expected quick profits from the colony, and were not happy about the early failures of the colonists.

the 1st permanent English colony in North America is founded. the colonist found no gold but learned tobacco grew well. Tobacco is cash crop. (that's what my teacher tough me)

Jamestown was made in honor of Queen Elizabeth I. The Virginia Company which settles in England made a settlement to sail to a new, mysterious island which is now called the Jamestown.
