A primary reason for the Dallas trip was to try and broker peace between two powerful Democrats -- Gov. John Connally and U.S. Senator Ralph W. Yarborough -- before the 1964 elections. Connally was seriously wounded in the same limousine in which Kennedy was killed on Nov. 22, 1963.

He wasn't traveling to the plaza. Dealey plaza was part of the parade route. The route was changed at the last minute. The motorcade turned right off Main and then left onto Elm and past the Texas Book Depository. It's amazing that as the final shot was fired the motorcade was moving nearly directly away from (the best vantage point for a shot) Oswalds position. Had the parade route not been changed, the difficulty of the shot would have been immensely more difficult from the shooting location. Again, if the route hadn't been changed, and the limousine had continued down Main, the only good shooting locations would have either been from government buildings, or on or below the railway bridge with secret service personnel coming at you. The sixth floor window offered the straightest, shortest shot possible from an obscured position along ANY route within the plaza.
