Marc Antony was a Roman general, politician and triumvir. He engaged in a power struggle with Octavian for supreme control of Rome. He allied himself with Cleopatra a queen of Egypt and their combined forces were defeated by Octavian. Had Antony and Cleopatra won, our western culture would have been vastly different. He is, in the popular mind, only remembered as the lover of Cleopatra and his abilities and good qualities are unfortunately overlooked.

Marc Antony was a relative of Julius Caesar and one of his best generals during his conquest of Gaul. After Caesar's assassination, together with Octavian and Lepidus, he became one of the three leading supporters of Caesar who formed the Second Triumvirate (three-man alliance). This triumvirate waged war on and defeated the forces which supported the assassins of Caesar. After this Marc Antony took charge of the Roman territories in the eastern Mediterranean, while Octavian took charge of the western territories and Lepidus took Spain and north-western Africa.

Marc Antony became the lover of Cleopatra VII of Egypt. He partitioned the Roman territories in the east between Cleopatra, the three children she had with him and the child she had with Caesar (she had been Caesar's lover, too). Octavian then waged war on Cleopatra and Marc Antony. They were defeated and committed suicide. His defeat led to Octavian becoming the sole ruler of Rome and the first Roman empror under the title of Augustus.

he was a general for julius ceasar. Mark Antony was also powerful because of his family. Yes, he was a plebeian, but his family was one of the wealthier ones and had a good reputation until Antony's father, who was so soft hearted that he just about gave away the family fortune. Mark Antony himself was consul along with Julius Caesar which added to his power and standing.

He was a prominent Roman general who rose to rule over half the Roman Empire. He cooperated with Octavian Augustus in bringing an end to the Civil Wars, before overstepping and bringing on another one which he lost, leaving Augustus in control to finally settle the wars and establish a new stable regime.

Marc Antony was/is famous or infamous, depending on how you look at him. In his own time, he was a protege of Julius Caesar and shared the consulship with Caesar when Caesar was assassinated. He was the top man in the Roman government for a short time. After a mini civil war, he was a member of the second triumvirate and had supreme authority in the east. He became infamous for his alliance with Cleopatra.
