It didn't work that way: Mexico and the United States started as independent countries; when Mexico got its independence from Spain in 1821, most Southwestern US was part of Mexico. In 1853 Texas split to become the "Republic of Texas"; later, the US annexed Texas and a war broke between the United States and Mexico between 1846 and 1848 (the Mexican-American War). Mexico lost such war and the territories of California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, Texas as well as parts of Kansas, Oklahoma, Wyoming and Colorado then became part of the US.

You mean before the Mexican-American War? That was the Nueces Strip.
New Mexico, and the rest of the continental US, is in the Western Hemisphere. Since the US is north of the equator, New Mexico is also in the Northern Hemisphere.
A value separated from the rest of the data is called an outlier
The U.S was at war with itself, separated between the Northern states and the Southern states

Texas freed itself before it was annexed. The rest are New Mexico, Arizona, California, Nevada, Colorado, and Utah.
We basically celebrate any normal holiday, just like the rest of the US does..seeing how we are part of the US and all.
The Gulf of California separates the Baja California Peninsula from most of the rest of Mexico. Note that the peninsula is NOT part of the US state of California. It is part of Mexico.
