The legend is that he felt unworthy to be crucified like Jesus and so asked to be crucified on an X-shaped cross, but this story is too suspiciously similar to the legend of Peter's crucifixion to be plausible.We do not know whether Andrew was crucified, but the various traditions all say that he was crucified for preaching Christianity to pagans.
