It was a nasty joke by the Romans - they said every "king" should have a crown so they made one for Jesus out of thorns which of course hurt.
In doing this act, the soldiers fulfilled Bibilical prophecy.
It was done as a mocking gesture. It became a symbol for the painful price of being 'king of the world.'
It is 78 cubic inches.
The verses at Ephesians 5:21-33 show how Theocracy works - Wives are in subjection to their husbands, husbands to Jesus and Jesus to God. (Jesus Christ is the head of the Christian congregation).
The Bible speaks of the saints of God being given "crowns" of rulership and authority in the Kingdom. It says of the returning Jesus Christ:"...in righteousness He doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and ON HIS HEAD WERE MANY CROWNS..." (Rev.19:11-12).Jesus told His disciples: "...in the regeneration when the Son of Man shall sit on the throne of His glory, YE ALSO SHALL SIT UPON TWELVE THRONES, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." (Matt.19:28)Crowns are worn by KINGS... and God's Word tells us that Jesus Christ is making God's saints: "...unto our God KINGS and PRIESTS: and WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH." (Rev.5:10)Paul says: "...every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a CORRUPTIBLE CROWN; but we an incorruptible." (I Cor.9:25)"...henceforth there is laid up for me A CROWN of righteousness, which the Lord, the Righteous Judge, SHALL GIVE ME AT THAT DAY, and not to me only, but UNTO THEM ALSO THAT LOVE HIS APPEARING." (II Tim.4:8)"...Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the CROWN of Life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love Him." (James 1:12)"...when the Chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a CROWN of Glory that fadeth not away." (I Peter 5:4)Jesus tells us: "...be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a CROWN of Life." (Rev.2:10)"...hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy CROWN." (Rev.3:11)
It's the "prize" or "reward" Jesus speaks of constantly. Through Him comes salvation and eternal life through faith in Him. But He also speaks of a "reward." A reward is "earned" through work and effort. The greater the work, the greater the reward, as illustrated in the parable of the talents and pounds. Jesus will reward His saints with "crowns of authority and rulership" over the nations when He returns: "...thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to God by thy blood... and hast made us unto our God KINGS and PRIESTS: and WE SHALL REIGN ON THE EARTH." (Rev.5:9-10) Jesus will reward each of His saints with varying degrees of power and authority, according to their accomplishments "in Him" during their lives. These are the "many crowns" He symbolically wears in descriptions of Him. "...His eyes were as a flame of fire, and ON HIS HEAD WERE MANY CROWNS..." (Rev.19:12). The "Crown of Life" is Eternal Life through Jesus Christ, and the reward He will bestow upon each saint, according to their works, who shall jointly rule the Kingdom of God with Him for a thousand years.
In the King James version this is part of the Book of Revelations - It is a 'vision' and so it does not refer to Jesus when he was on Earth. * Rev 1:14 His head and his hairs were white like wool, as white as snow; and his eyes were as a flame of fire;
The soldiers placed a crown of thorns on Jesus's head as a mocking gesture of his claim to be the King of the Jews.
it was a crown of thorns. they twisted together thorns and pressed it into his head
The first wound is on the head, when the soldiers placed a crown of thorns on his head.
The number of thorns used in the crown are not known to us, as it s not mentioned in the bible.
The crown of thorns was placed on his head and the heavy cross on his shoulder.
crown of thorns... and they weren't gentle when they put it on!
It symbolizes the crown of thorns that was placed upon Jesus Christ's head before his Crucifixion.
It was wrong because Jesus is known as the king of all kings so to mock Jesus the Romans put a CROWN of thorns on his head
The crown of thorns was put on Jesus before he carried the cross. This happened in the courtyard of Pilate's palace - the soldiers put a purple cloak on his shoulders, a reed in his hand as a scepter, and a crown of thorns on his head.
Our Lord Was Crowned with thorns.
They did this because all Jews worshiped Jesus as a king. The crown of thorns was a joke because He was the King of Jews. The sign on the cross also had the same meaning
No. He was nailed to a cross with a crown if thorns on his head and left to die in a cave
