The Guru Granth Sahib is the holy scripture and the final Guru of Sikhs. It is some 1430 pages in length and was compiled and composed from 1469 to 1708. It is a collection of hymns which describe the nature of God and the correct way to live.

No one can alter any of the writings of the Sikh Gurus written in Guru Granth Sahib; this includes sentences, words, structure and grammar.

The Guru Granth Sahib is kept in a place of honour in the gurdwara (place of worship), and there is a ceremony during which the scripture is "put to bed" at the end of the day.

Any copies of their sacred book Guru Granth Sahib which are too badly damaged to be used, and any printer's waste which contains any of its text, are cremated in a similar fashion to the deceased.
