Jazz in America is a variety of styles that represent every part of America. It's important to open the hearts and minds of children about this type of musical expression, so they in turn can express their style to share with the world!

By incorporating a new style of piano playing called Harlem Stride, the traditional southern style Jazz Music which had essentially been the music of the poor, acquired a new sophistication that appealed to the socially elite as well. As a result, two classes who had always been separate were co mingling at jazz clubs. The music lent itself to innovation and rapidly spread across the country drawing fans from different races as well .

Jazz is considered important because its influence is deep and wide. Country, Western (no, they weren't always the same thing), Stage, Pop and Rock and Roll were all re-shaped by Jazz. It is considered one of the only art forms of American origins. (Comic Books and lesser known literary forms share this distinction.)

Although jazz is associated with free-form improvisation, it did not originate this practice. Classical performers/composers participated in frequent battles of improvisation.
