Why was manifest destiny bad?

the negative result is more then half of the native population was destroyed. to the point it was genocide. the race of the native american people decreased. Loss a lifes and the stealing of land should without a doubt be a serious set-back for moral-high people.

The Indians (Native Americans) were removed from their lands, and many of their cultures died out. Politically, Manifest Destiny was one trigger of the Civil War, as conflicts arose over whether slavery would be permitted in new western states.

positive results of the Manifest Destiny was that America gained alot of land. They fought a war with Mexico during the 1800's called the Mexican War. It was a land dispute over Texas. The majority had voted to join America, but Mexico still wouldn't let them. The Americans won the war, gaining Texas, and forcing Mexico to sell much of their land. This was a big gain for America. Also, in 1804, America bought the Louisiana territory from France. This was called the Louisiana Purchase. They also made the Gadsden Purchase, gaining land. And, in the mid-1800's, many Americans made the choice to move west to Oregon to gain rich farming land. In the 1840's Georgian settlers wanted Native Americans off their land. So, after debate, government passed the Indian Removal Act. Soldiers forced the Indians tribes including the Cherokee to migrate from their homelands to new land in Oklahoma. 25% of the Indians that were forced to moved died, hence it was given the name The Trail of Tears. All this resulted in land gain for America.
