The television was a new instrument that was being bought into most middle class working families. By using the television to attract the attention of these families, politics were able to gain votes. This new source of Propaganda and Advertising allowed for certain parties to gain votes in a new and different way.

Television affected US politics in the 1950's by being the major source of information about politics to the public. Political Candidates and their nicely packaged political ads were on TV. Those candidates that looked good to the viewer and seemed smart by answering questions quickly were favored over the other candidates.
