Thoth was one of the more important Egyptian gods. He was the arbiter of godly disputes, developed science and the 365 day calendar, and weighed the hearts of the dead in judgment of whether their souls were worthy for the afterlife.

As those gods and goddesses were based on animals that the ancient people encountered, and the natural world as they saw it. The gods and goddesses were the world, and the world to come in death, so, very important.
