Different cities and juridictions. I believe it was the L.A. Sheriff's Dept. that had contacted city police thinking that the Hinman murder was connected to the Tate-LaBianca murders. They were scoffed at. Months later some Einstien finally put them together but a lot of time was wasted. There was a message written in Hinman's blood at the crime scene and other similarities, that could have easily hooked it to the later killings. But despite the 'bumps' in the road to justice, it finally did prevail.

What year were the Charles Manson killings?

Manson was convicted of the Tate-LaBianca murders which occured on August 8 and 9, 1969. He also ordered the killing of music teacher Gary Hinman but I have never heard if charges were ever brought against him for Hinman's murder. Manson and his 'family' are suspected in many more killings but with many there is a lack of evidence, some there is a lack of a body. People that crossed Manson's path many times just disappeared.

What are the names of the Manson family members who are in jail for the Tate-LaBianca murders?

Susan Atkins, (died of brain cancer in 2009), Patricia Krenwinkle, Leslie Van Houten, Charles 'Tex' Watson and of course Charles Manson. *Bobby Beausoleil was arrested prior to the above family members for the murder of music teacher Gary Hinman. Hinman's murder preceeded the Tate-LaBianca killings by several weeks and was initially not associated with other Manson family murders. All of the above mentioned Manson family members have requested parole numerous times and all attempts have been refused by the California Parole Board.

When did Manson and his followers commit murder?

The murders he was convicted of occured on August 9 & 10, 1969. But there were other victims that seldom get mentioned in the mainstream media. Music teacher Gary Hinman was murdered before the August 1969 killings, and he was not alone. Police are still searching for bodies hidden in the desert east of Los Angeles. Many will probably never be found.

What orders did Charles Manson give?

He ordered the deaths of Gary Hinman, the Tate-LaBianca murders, John 'Shorty' Shea, attorney Ronald Hughes, and a few others that narrowly escaped with their lives. There is one more, that many people forget about, that is Paul Polanski, Sharon Tate's unborn child. After the murder of Laci Peterson in Modesto, California, President Clinton signed into law making it murder to kill the mother causing the infant to die.

Was Zodiac influenced by the Manson murders?

It is possible that Zodiac may have been influenced by the Manson murders in respect to the message he left at the Lake Berryessa crime scene on September 27, 1969. After stabbing Brian Hartnell and Cecelia Shepard Zodiac wrote the dates of a past killing and the current attack on the side of Hartnell's Carmen Ghia. The Lake Berryessa attack occurred less than two months after the Tate-LaBianca murders in Southern California. Manson's minions left messages written in the victim's blood at both crime scenes and at the previous murder of music teacher Gary Hinman.

Where did Charles Manson murder?

As far as anybody knows, Manson's murders were mainly on the West coast, mostly in Southern California. Manson and his followers wandered up and down the west coast from below L.A. to Washington state. There are always unsolved murders and missing persons that are never found, so who knows. You can't hang a man on speculation.

What were the similarities of Charles Manson's victims?

The Tate-La Bianca murder victims were affluent people from expensive neighborhoods, with the exception of Steven Parent, who was shot by Tex Watson because he was in the wrong place at that particular time. He was visiting Steve Garrison, the Tate's groundkeeper. Manson's other victims though did not fit this mold. Gary Hinman was a music teacher in a public school with little material wealth. John 'Shorty' Shea, was cut into tiny pieces which I believe have never been found. These men had the misfortune of crossing Manson's path but did not live to tell about it. It is suspected there are many more and police still search in some of Manson's old haunts in the hope of finding bodies or at least body parts.

Should Charles Manson be reclassified as something other than a serial killer?

Possibly. In the way that criminals can show traits of both organized and disorganized characteristics, Manson may qualify as a different type of killer also. He most definitely fits the profile of a cult leader. Although the Tate-LaBianca murders should be viewed serial murders by proxy*. They were separate killings with a cooling off period between. With the murders of John 'Shorty' Shea and Gary Hinman, not to mention untold others, he meets the FBI's criteria as three separate kills with cooling off in between.*Manson used his followers as his murder weapon, as opposed to him actually committing the murders himself, he just used humans as others would a knife or gun.
