First there was the National Advisory Council on Aeronautics, or NACA. It was created in 1915 to do aeronautical research, and a lot of its research is still used; the wings on all airplanes are designed as NACA airfoils. NACA also created the cowling used on every radial-engined airplane made since 1927. When spaceflight became possible, NACA was expanded to do research into civilian applications of space, and NACA became NASA.

No. Nukes created the cold war.Perhaps they kept the cold war cold, but they did not create it! Without them it is very likely it would have become a hot war before Stalin's death.
Economics & physical damage is and was irrelevant to the cold war (other than going "bankrupt" which is what happened to the Soviets thus ending the cold war in 1990). The cold war was created by the atomic bomb.
WW2-created the atomic age; which in turn created the cold war; which in turn created the Korean and Vietnam Wars; which in turn created todays world.
