Tudors are well known purely because so much went on during that era.
Yes, Shakespeare was in the Tudor era, but he is also in what is more commonly known as the Elizabethen era.
The Tudor Rose was so important because it was the symbol of the joining of the two Royal families of York and Lancaster, who were both descended from the sons of Edward III. Throughout the late 1400's, particularly from 1460 onwards, the two families fought against each other for the throne of England. These wars ended during the reign of Henry VII, the father of Henry VIII. To symbol the end of the wars and the joining of the two houses through the marriage of Henry to his wife Elizabeth of York, the Tudor rose was formed by combining the red rose of Lancaster and the white rose of York.
The Tudor rose has since been an important symbol and is found on many buildings of the period. The rose is still used on many royal standards and symbols today.
