Zenger was jailed but would not name sources. He was charged with libel-- at that time it meant publishing disagreement with the government. Zenger's wife kept publishing ( an news worthy fact in itself ) and was able to have a Crosby packed jury
replaced with Zenger's peers.
Alexander Hamilton ( already famous ) also stepped forward to be Zenger's lawyer.
Zenger was found innocent, and the trial helped pave the way to the 1st amendment.
