Why was the first light switch made?

What is the answer to the light switch riddle?
Turn the first light switch on and wait 5 minutes, turn it off. Turn the second light switch on and go into the other room. The light bulb that is currently "on" represents the second light switch. Touch the next two light bulbs and which ever is hotter represents the first light switch. You can find the third by cancelling out the other two.

How do you separate 2 lights from 1 switch?
How can you power a second switch to operate another light separately from the original light power source?
well, it's not a requirement, but traditionally a single light on a single switch has hot, neutral and ground brought directly to the light fixture from the panel. this circuit is called the home run. the hot is then run to the switch and back to the light as switched hot, which is used to feed the light. in order to add a second switched light fixture on a separate switch, you could pick up hot, neutral and ground at the first light fixture and carry it in another circuit to the second light fixture (traditionally) OR to the second light switch directly, whichever is easier. if you carried the hot/neutral/ground to the second light fixture, you would then circuit hot and switched hot to/from the second switch. if you carried hot/neutral/ground directly to the second switch, you would have to switch the hot and carry switched hot/neutral/ground to the second light. the same is true if the first switch has the home run, only you would add a circuit from the first switch to the second light fixture (or switch) instead of from the first light fixture.

How do you hook up a light and switch from an existing light?
Your question implies that you want to wire a new branch circuit controlled by a switch using the existing light fixture. DON'T DO IT! It is a code violation. The existing light has a switch already. you cannot control another light with another switch when the first light is OFF. There are safety reasons for not doing this. If you wire the new light from the hot side of the existing light, you can be shocked even if the new switch is OFF.

Did Joseph Swan invented the first electric switch?
Have 3 lights Power to light 1 Need to connect light 2 then light 3 then down to single pole switch How do you wire?
You would wire the switch to the first light. Code says to break the black or power side of the circuit. Connect the white to the light. Take the black down to the switch on the black wire and back to the light on the white. This is a line of wire from the light to the switch. From the first light, take the white and the return white from the switch to the second with another run of wire. This will be regular black white with ground. White to white and at the first light the return line from the switch is white but hook to the black to the second light. Second light to third just continues the two wires. Black to black, white to white. I think this is clear enough to follow. If not, ask again.
