First what is wrong with you headlight switch on your 93 topaz.
You need the right tool. A little expensive just to check for the codes. So, a service shop will be the cheapest way to go.
Check the trunk, driver's side close to the hinge. You should see a label that says Fuel Pump Reset Switch right next to a finger hole in the lining along the top of the side. The fuel switch is in there.
Hey Fred==This is rather complicated and requires special tools and pullers. I suggest you let the expert do it. GoodluckJoe
The switching is done within the transmission by internal pressure. YOu may just be low on fluid. I have had this happen to my 93 topaz three times (plus a fourth that happened before I got the car). Every time it happened the fluid level was full. The tranny used (ATX) on the topaz has a governor on it. If the governor is not set right it will not shift. I have had to have the governor gear replaced Dec. 2005 because of this. Once you have one problem with the transmission you may have problems the rest of the car's life. I am now on my 4th transmission.
Unless I miss my guessw it's in the same place that it is on my 93. Just to the left of the steering column under the dash panel. You have to get into the floor and look up to see anything in it....... One of FORDS Better ideas :)>
replace head light switch on 93 ford explorer
Its just a geuss. but on my 93 mercury topaz the head light switch alsoe controls the lights in side the care. If it's clicked all the way on that might be why.

the ash lights come on when you turn your park/ head lights on are so you may have a faulty head light switch!

The head light switch is shorting out ,or a bad connection
The 1993 Mercury Sable backup light relay switch can be found beneath the drivers side dashboard. The backup light relay switch will be above the accelerator pedal.
The 1993 Jeep grand Cherokee brake light switch simply plugs in and out. The brake light switch is located beneath the dashboard on the drivers side of the engine compartment.
take it to a dealer
Make sure switch in trunk is in proper position
are you thinking about the dimmer switch or the actual illumination light? on the left side of the steering wheel you will find the dimmer switch, and the dash becomes illuminated from the first click of your headlight switch.
I would be thinking it is a head gasket.
