It combined the Virginia Plan, and the New Jersey Plan, creating the House of Representatives, and the Senate. It's important because it guarantees no state, regardless of population, has more power than any other.

New Jersey, which was a relatively miniscule state, believed in equal representation in government. In the end, the Great Compromise was made. This established the two separate houses that we still have today.
