One major reason for the successful defense of the Kokoda Trail is that it is impassable by any type of motor vehicle and there are only a few areas that can be successfully supplied by air. Men and mules had to bring supplies to both sides, and as the Japanese advanced their supply line became longer while the Australian's became shorter. But the ultimate success was probably due to the tenacity of the individual Australian soldiers. They fought almost always outnumbered 5 to 1. When the Japanese took the airfield at Kokoda, they estimated that they had driven back a force of at least 1200 men, but there had actually been only 77 defenders!
Most people refer to it as the New Guinea Campaign.
'The Kokoda campaign ended in January 1943.' Umm WRONG!!.. It was 1st of November 1942..

Australia had no allies helping her during the Kokoda Campaign. Britain deserted us, New Zealand, sent only a few men, and America was ignoring our cries for help.
