What do you mean by the Medieval Church?

The term Medieval Church could be construed to apply to the Christian religion. It could also apply to a church organization dominating a given area. So the Church of Rome dominated the Roman Empire of the fifth century, The Eastern Orthodox dominated the eastern parts of Christian Europe after the Great Schism of 1054, just as the Roman Catholic Church dominate the West, and each of these might be referred to as the Church in those areas.

First of all the majority of the population couldn't read or write. Also it was very difficult of produce a book since it had to be hand written and then there was only one copy. Next, the Church censored all work so if it didn't follow thee thinking of the church it was banned. Most of the books that were produced were done by the church and monks who sat for years creating one work. Paper and ink were very expensive as well. Until the printing press was invented there were no books like we have today. The first book printed was the bible.
