Because if the plan was effectively executed the German forces would have had a much more effective campaign in France. Meaning the French and their allies would have a harder time retaking France and Belgium and possibly changing the outcome of the war.

The schlieffen plan was made because Germany wanted to attack and take over France but at the same time avoid a war on two fronts. This is was because Russia was on one side of Germany and France was on the other. Germany beleived that if they attacked one, then the other would attack them from the opposing side. They decided to attack France first because they thought that because Russia's army was so big, they would take a lot longer to gather their forces. Thus giving Germany time to defeat France and then to tackle Russia with all their forces.
