Here I take that by Silk Road, you mean the routes through regions of the Asian continent connecting the West and East. It linked traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, soldiers, nomads, and urban dwellers from China and India to the Mediterranean Sea during various periods of time. For one thing, it facilitated trade. Chinese were able to sell their goods to west and to buy the items that they needed from west. As the name suggests, the important item traded was silk and that should have earned them enough reserves to buy the merchandise from markets in mediterranean and other parts.

Silk road facilitated the transmission not just of goods but also ideas and culture, notably in the area of religions.

The Xiongnu adopted Chinese agricultural techniques, dress style, and lifestyle. On the other hand, the Chinese adopted Xiongnu military techniques, some dress style, and music and dance.

But if you were referring to online black market Silk Road, then I 'd decline to comment.

How does geography have an effect on trade in ancient china?

Geography can effect in a lot of ways like the fact that they have large mountain ranges surrounding them in most areas. This can cut them off from Europe and did until the silk road came along and even then most traders did not want to make the journey because it was still very treacherous. Because of the sea and unforgiving desserts and mountains china was cut off from a lot of technology from Mesopotamia and Europe for a while. So they had to come up with a lot of stuff for themselves, and when they did become exposed to all of this they modified much of it (like paper for example). This is why the silk road was so important for their economy.

What did the Silk Road mean to China?

The opening of the silk road affected china as of 1)Economically, It helped china in trading with the west, east and also Europe, this gave china a market to sell its goods and it made money off of trade, China's goods were very valuable which meant the traders got a bigger profit, meaning more money. 2) Culturally, it introduced more cultures and ways to celebrate and communicate to what they called their God, and also during a rough time for China Buddhism was introduced, which helped the Chinese relieve their stress of what may have happened recently. 3) Socially, more languages were introduced to people, new ways to communicate, new ways to write, draw, and talk were all introduced to people near the silk road, the Chinese were confused as were the Europeans because they were all hearing these weired words that didn't make sense to them because they had never been exposed to these different ways to communicate. I know that there is more but this is all I know because i am still learning about china my self, hope that this can help! ;-D

How did changes to the silk road force Europeans to look for other ways to trade with Asia?

Traveling by land from Europe to China entailed avoiding robbers and soldiers from possible unfriendly nations. Sea travel was possible by sailing around the southern tip of Africa and then finding silk trading ports in India and China. For this reason a sailing route traveling west from Europe was a hope to find a better way to reach Asia.
