Simple. The Philippines was the Great Human Shield of the United States during World War II. Aside from Pearl Harbor, have you heard of any major American cities/mainland-US areas affected by the war? NONE! The war was fought in our shores and which obliterated much of our heritage.

And yes, they robbed us of our independence and shouldn't have been there in the first place.
