It was only a square keep castle which was not the most up to date one which therefore meant it didn't have some of the good lines of defence it could have had. It also had wooden girders - stilt type things that were under the ground to hold it up. Attackers could dig underneath the castle and burn all the girders down so that the whole castle cam down and was destroyed. That would kill everyone in the castle so it was a very good method of attack. Hope this helped :)
