Egypt is known to have plenty of dry desert where there are not many trees due to a lack of water. much of the wood in Egypt is imported from other countries-- importing involves shipping / transporting --when transporting; fuel, handling fees, and service charges are applied. these are factors which make wood more expensive in Egypt.

What sort of wood was the doorposts made of?

Ancient Egypt was always acutely short of good building wood, so much of it was imported from other countries. This made strong hardwoods very expensive and out of the reach of ordinary folk, while the wealthy nobles could display their status by having building wood of Lebanese cedar or African ebony. For the majority of the population, timber meant palm wood which quickly rotted and had to be replaced.
