Prior to Pearl Harbor, the U.S. had been giving Britain support under the Lend-Lease Act. Early in the war Russia had actually been allied with Hitler , but after Hitler's invasion of Russia, Stalin changed sides, although no one really trusted him. When Pearl Harbor occurred, and Japan, Germany, and Italy declared war on the U.S. , and the U.S sided with Britain, Russia, French freedom fighters and numerous other countries with smaller parts in the war.
