They were of course British citizens who were sent to America. The British Parliament decided to make laws for the new land since America was still technically part of Britain. When Britain won their French & Indian war, they were out of money because they spent it all on supplies for the war. So they figured, if America is still part of Britain we have the right to tax the colonists for money! So Parliament went ahead and taxed the colonists and got their money. The colonists, however, didn't like how Britain taxed them without their agreement. The way they thought of it was: If they are thousands of miles away from us, why should they be able to take our money?" The colonists protested and boycotted and eventually all taxes but the one on tea were taken away. Then, Britain ran out of places to put their soldiers, so they sent their soldiers to America, again, without their agreement. The colonists were furious and much anger caused events such as: The Boston Massacre. Britain kept doing horrible things like that, and that's why the colonists were unhappy. :)
