They were miserable on the Mayflower only. They were miserable on their journey in the Mayflower over the frigid Atlantic as it was close to winter, with many people dying, with food and water being scarce, and what was there was polluted, not to mention the possibility of rats and whatever other birds and such was there. Plus, diseases and illnesses being rampant, as no one could leave the boat and not be infected.
