The American colonists were tired of being taxed by the English parliament where they had no representation. The top leaders and the common citizens believed that becoming an independent nation was a good idea and they were willing to fight for it.

The British Colonies were upset with Great Britain for many reasons

1. The Colonies had no voice in government

2. The Colonists had to pay taxes to Britain and the Colonists felt that this was unfair to pay a king thousands of miles away

3. British soliders could break in to a Colonists home and stay there for as long as they wanted

4. The writings of enlightened thinkers inspired many of our founding fathers to believe that every man had rights and not live with out a say

5. British soliders shot unarmed Colonists trying to go to a meeting this would be called the Boston Massacre
