"Prosecuted" means to take legal action against someone. I'm assuming you mean "persecuted".

Members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (commonly called "Mormons") have been persecuted since their beginnings in 1830. There are many different reasons why they might be persecuted.

Often in the early days of the church they were persecuted because people worried that the Mormons were going to take over their land or government. Many also thought they were crazy for believing Joseph Smith. They thought that anyone who belived a man who said he had seen God and angels must be insane.

Then as well as today, many of the people who oppose the church are actually people who have left the church. They are trying to retaliate because of something they were offended by or because of a negative experience they had.

Today, members of the church are persecuted for being different than mainstream Christianity. Many do not consider them Christian for various reasons, and try to point out their many reasons that Mormons are not Christian. Some consider them a 'cult' and think that they are brainwashed. Church members are often mocked for their high moral standards, including their stance against gay marriage.

Why did Mormons immigrate?

They moved to Utah because they were being prosecuted by people. People today say they were being prosecuted for polygamy, the real reason they were being prosecuted and started moving to Utah was the governor was worried he would lose the upcoming elections because he and the Mormons didn't get like each other. There were so many Mormons that weren't going to vote for him that he got rid of them.He passed laws making Mormonism illegal and prosecuted them. So they moved to Utah. However Mormons were polygamists at the time, they gave that practice up long ago.
