They now had a virgin continent filled with unassuming natives with which to create an empire. Columbus also made his discoveries sound more appealing by claiming that it looked like the Garden of Eden on Hispaniola.

Columbus did not discover North America, but did go to the islands in the Bahamas. He never knew that North America existed. Nothing much happened in 1492 after he returned to Spain. Few people realized he had sailed to a new area of the world and the Crown was not happy with him since he didn't find gold or riches for them.

How was Columbus treated on his way to his country?

On the first voyage, Columbus was treated as a hero. But then as he went on his second voyage, Christopher made a colony on El Salvador, (The Savior) He governed it. He was very cruel, cutting of ears and noses if any one stole, and the people grew afraid, and wrote to the king and queen of Spain. The rulers were notified and grew worried. Columbus was made a prisoner in his own colony, until a ship to bring him to Spain took him there. Then his reputation and money was terrible, no body liked him, and he was financially in dept. He was a ruined man, and it was not until two decades after his death would we realize he was guilty of finding the Americas.

Did Columbus have a little regaurd for King Ferdinand and quenn Isabella?

No, actually it was quite the opposite situation. The available evidence indicates that Columbus had very high regard for Ferdinand and Isabella, but unfortunately the feeling was not mutual. In fact it seems that apart from the very brief period just after Columbus was successful on the first voyage the King at best only tolerated Columbus and it could even be true that at times he hated Columbus! Before the success of the first voyage, Ferdinand was not entirely convinced in the sanity of the claims made by Columbus with regard to himself. Then there was a quite happy few months when Columbus was in favor with the royals until he set out on the second voyage. Then the lengthy delays during which Columbus failed to ship the promised gold to Spain led the royals to lose faith in him, at least partially, and eventually so many people were speaking against Columbus and complaining about his governance of Hispaniola that Ferdinand and Isabella ordered that he be arrested and brought back to Spain. Columbus arrived in chains and was thrown into prison. Though he was soon released, the grief and stress over his treatment had taken their toll on his physical and mental health and he rapidly deteriorated during the next few years, as did his regard for the Spanish crown.
