Gas, machine guns and tanks. War always seems to usher in a new era of tech, and this one was no different. Also, trenches were used for the first time - and the last. It was seen as a huge, unsuccessful stalemate.

The aircraft as a bomber, aircraft to fight other aircraft, the tank as a cover for infantry, more efficient machine guns, germ warfare, fast, heavily armed ships, motor torpedo boats. All of these changed warfare.
