It should also be recognised that patrician -plebeian was not a wealth division. There were very rich plebeians as well as very poor ones; and very poor patricians as well as very rich ones. And there were plebeian and patrician branches of the same family.

As examples, Sulla was a poor patrician until he gained power as consul and was able to enrich himself; Cicero was a very rich plebeian consul.
